MoCADA + THE CENTER FOR URBAN PEDAGOGY

I made a trip to Brooklyn after spending time in the Upper West Side. I dropped by MoCADA to see the retrospective on Spike Lee's 'Do The Right Thing' - a small but interesting exhibition of photographs and props from the movie set. The issues highlighted in the film - tensions between populations in NYC - is still relevant to the city today, so it didn't feel as if it was a film from 30 years ago...

I had a last minute visit to the Center for Urban Pedagogy in Gowanus, Brooklyn. During their open office, I had a chance to talk to the creative team about their efforts to engage the community with urban, political and social matters. Using the medium of print and graphic design, CUP distribute information to the public to empower them and give them autonomy within their city. They engage both with adult populations and schoolchildren, partnering with other organisations, creative individuals and schools in an effort to educate the public.
